Anxiety is our body and mind’s reaction to stress. It is characterized by the tensions and it is not experienced by adults alone. Social anxiety is a kind of anxiety which is defined by extreme fear of social settings. It is more than shyness because people who have this will totally avoid social interaction in their lives. So, what are the ways on how to overcome anxiety?
First, you have to feel good about yourself. It is not easy for other people to accept themselves. Why? It can be because of unhappy childhood or the mere fact that they are not really satisfied with themselves. No one can make you feel better unless you make some adjustments with yourself. You can fist open your problem with a very trusted friend. Sometimes you just do not know it but you have good traits in you. Friends will make you see that.
Next, in order to be ready for a social interaction, you can play role ahead of time. You can act it out with a friend- the introduction of yourself and conversations that are common. Your nervousness will affect your speech, so, you can speak in slow and calm manner.
Third, you have to improve your self image. Negative thoughts about yourself will ruin you. All people have good qualities in them and yours are waiting to be discovered and developed. Negative thoughts about oneself will make people turn away from you. When you found that you have good traits. That will boost your self worth and improve your self confidence.
Make an effort to have eye contacts. Be the first to make moves in meeting people by simply saying hi. You will notice that your greeting will be responded with. The hello that you utter must be casual and you can say it with a smile.
Learn some social skills. In order to manage your problem on how to overcome anxiety, you can attend some training classes. This will help you overcome your fear. It is helpful to know that you are not alone in your ordeals. There are low- cost classes that will guide you in developing your personality and overcoming your fears. In connection, you can also join local group or community who has the same problem. Most of the sessions are visited by people who triumphed over the problem and they share what they did in order to do it.
Lastly, you must go out of your comfort zone by talking to strangers. You can ask for directions from strangers and give compliments every now and then.
