Overcome Fear of Public Speaking

We are almost at awe when someone easily delivers his or her piece in public. The common feeling is to get nervous when we present ourselves and say something. It is rare to be very comfortable and say the piece in a very smooth manner. Public speaking is one of the activities we often avoid. However, we cannot live in social world without saying anything in public. The best way would be to overcome fear of public speaking.

Public speaking does not have to be that hard. As we can see, there are people who can do the same task without being bothered, so why can’t you? There are underlying principles on public speaking so you only have to know it. First, we believe that life is stressful that is why we treat things stressful too. The truth is everybody gets nervous in public speaking. All of us feel that our voices, knees and hands shake and the thoughts get jumbled. These people learned to overcome public speaking through organizing their thoughts and actions. Next, we feel that we can never be like those people in front. We think that they are very brilliant and perfect. Public speaking is a normal activity. You do not have to be perfect. Audience does really expect perfection from you or from anyone who gets in front. What you do not know is that when you put so much pressure in delivering your speech you are likely to have more mistakes. You are putting so much pressure on becoming perfect that you forget the primary goal of your speech. It is true that you must deliver it properly but the message of your speech is the most important thing, not you. What is a successful public speaking? It is when your audience learn from you. It is when the time they leave the place, the message stays on their mind and heart forever. Another factor is the length of your speech. You do not have to say very long speech because that will bore your audience and you will also have a hard time in memorizing or familiarize the speech. Two to three points will do. In fact, short speeches are more appreciated because they are the ones which are easily understood. They are also the most recognized and remembered pieces. When you focus on the two to three points, you and your audience will focus more on it.

Remember, the most important thing in public speaking is to deliver the most important message. It is not your responsibility to make all of the approvals of the audiences. It is foolish to think of that because not one public speaker is approved by every audience.
